How the pelletising head works

The Erema hot die face pelletiser system can be added to almost any conventional extruder, beyond almost any melt filtration equipment or melt pump.

The melt which comes out through boreholes on the die face (see picture left) is cut off by rotating knives as it exits and centrifugal force pushes it (now pellets) outwards in a high speed rotating water ring. This cools the pellets and transports them via the discharge channel to the downstream pellet water removal screen,

where the cooled pellets are separated from the cooling water. The pellets then pass through an oversize particle separator to the drying centrifuge. The centrifuge works with dual air exchange and, together with the follow-on pellet transport piping system (to silo or bagging system), ensures that the pellets are dried continuously.

A water pump returns the cooling water to the pelletiser head in a circuit, passing through a cooling water filtration system and a heat exchanger. The special design of the cooling system allows relatively high cooling (chilled) water temperatures above 20°C (except with very high outputs of PP melt). This results in considerably reduced chilled water cost.
